Dr. Mary Aldrene Tan graduated from University of Santo Tomas in 1993. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of the Philippines in 1997 and a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at North Shore University Hospital in 2005. Dr. Tan completed a clinical and research fellowship in dermatology at the National Skin Centre in Singapore in 1998, followed by a visiting fellowship at the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology from 1999-2001. She then returned to the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology where she served as chief fellow from 2005-2006 and then completed a hematopathology fellowship at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2007. Dr. Tan served as a dermatopathologist at AmeriPath New York for several years. She has lectured and published on the clinical and histopathologic criteria for malignant melanoma and widely on metastatic diseases of the skin. She authored along with Dr. A. Bernard Ackerman the book Histopathologic Diagnosis of Neoplasms with Sebaceous Differentiation, and was a contributor to Dr. Ackerman’s latest edition of his classic; Histologic Diagnosis of Inflammatory Skin Diseases.
