Dermatopathology

Our dermatopathology division consists of a team of highly experienced board-certified dermatopathologists who are recognized experts in nevomelanocytic lesions, dermatoses, and adnexalneoplasms. Ancillary expertise in other areas of anatomic pathology including soft tissue neoplasm and hematopoietic lesions is available in-house from other departments adding a depth to diagnostic interpretation that not many pathology labs can provide. Our on-site laboratory processes ancillary immunofluorescent, immunohistochemical, and molecular testing resulting in timely direct correlation with biopsy findings. We report 98% of cases within 24 hours of receipt. For cases of malignant melanoma or other significant or unexpected findings our pathologist will telephone your office directly. The option for all reports to include a representative photomicrograph depicting the main diagnostic finding is available, depending on client preferences.

Services and techniques include:

  • • Routine biopsy evaluation with correlation to historical material, if pertinent
  • • Daily team review of difficult cases
  • • Expert second consultative opinion on biopsies diagnosed elsewhere
  • • Immunofluorescent and immunohistochemistry performed in-house daily
  • • Molecular diagnostic and prognostic techniques including gene rearrangement
      and melanoma FISH probes
  • • Special processing and same day results for STAT or emergency cases

Our pathologists welcome the opportunity to discuss case findings and are available 24 hours a day to answer your questions. Call +1.800 325.PATH (7284), or use the “Ask a Pathologist” feature on the right side of the page.
